Welcome to my hunting page. Hunting holds a special place in my heart. To me, there is nothing like being out in the woods, seeing and hearing all the things nature has to offer. The actual taking of a game animal is actually secondary to the whole experience. After going through the younger years of my adult life, I started hunting again in 1995, when I bought my first compound bow and then later in the year a Marlin 30-30 336CS. Here are pictures of the animals I have taken, with explanations below.

Deer Hunting 1996

This was the first deer , a doe, that I took. It happened in Nov. 1996 on public land in Columbia County, WI. I used a Marlin 30-30 with 170 grain Federal ammo. I had the help of Luke Stone to drag this deer.

Deer Hunting 1998

This was the first buck I took. It was taken 11-21-1998 at 10:00am. I used a Marlin 30-30 with 170 grain Federal ammo. This deer was taken on public land in Columbia County, WI. Special thanks go out to Roger Pemberton of Beaver Dam, WI., without his help the harvesting of this deer may not have been possible.

Deer Hunting 1999

These 2 deer were taken 30 seconds apart on opening day of the 1999 Wisconsin gun season. I used a Mossberg 12 gauge scoped slug gun. I was hunting for the 1st year on leased land in Clark county, WI. The biggest joy of this occasion was that my son, Joshua, who was 12 years old at the time, was in another stand and witnessed the whole event.

Here is my son Joshua pictured with the 2 deer. He had asked if he could gut the deer if I were to get one that day. Little did he realize I would get 2. He did gut both deer with no complaints at all.

Deer Hunting 2000

This was my first deer taken with a bow after 6 years of trying. I took this 4 pointer on 9-16-00 at 5:00 pm. Taken with a Darton bow. I was by myself for this hunt. This deer was taken on leased land in Clark County, WI. I stayed at Russel Memorial Park in my Pop-Up.

This doe was taken during the 2000 T-Zone Wisconsin hunt. Taken on leased land in Clark County, WI. This deer was taken with a Mossberg 835 scoped slug gun at 4:00 pm. I stayed at Russel Memorial Park in my Pop-Up.

This doe was taken on the 1st day of the 2000 Wisconsin Gun hunt. This deer was taken with a Mossberg 835 scoped slug gun at 4:00 pm. I stayed at Russell Memorial Park in my Pop-Up. I was accompanied on this hunt by my son, Josh, who decided to trade stands with me for the afternoon hunt. I really wish he had had the fortune to take a deer this year, but was very glad he was there to share in my joy!

Deer Hunting 2003

2003-deer-1.jpg

This “nub” buck was taken on Tuesday 11-25-2003 at about 2:30 pm in unit 69 in Washington County in the Northern Kettle Moraine Forest. I used my Mossberg 835 12-gauge shotgun. My first “Kettle” deer!

Deer Hunting 2004

This “spike” buck was taken on 11-21-04 at about 8:30 am in the Northern Kettle Moraine Forest. Again, I used my trusty Mossberg to take this deer. This was the second deer that came through at the same time. The first was a bit bigger buck that appeared to want to run me over. I had the scope on him and at 15 yards I shot and hit him right in the chest. As the deer was passing me on the right at about 10 yards I could see he was bleeding at the mouth. This deer pictured was behind him and because I was concentrating on the other deer I thought it was a doe and shot once since I had a doe tag also. I spent about 45 minutes looking for the other deer and never did find him. It is never a good feeling to hit a deer and not find it! But I was fortunate enough to find this one and the body was very good size.

Deer Hunting 2005

2005-deer-1.jpg

This Doe was taken at about 7:30 am on Nov. 19, 2005. That was opening day of 2005’s deer hunt. This was the 7th deer that I had seen that morning but the first that actually gave me a shot. I was using my Remington model 710 30-06, and this was the first deer taken with that rifle. I was on private land owned by my aunt. As can be seen, we had just enough of a snow cover to make seeing and tracking very nice, although this deer only went about 30 yards after the shot. Very large doe! We stayed at Castle Rock Park, which is a very large county park in Wisconsin. Amazingly, we had the whole park to ourselves.

2007-deer-1.jpg

This Doe was shot at 8:30 am on 11-23-2007. The Friday of the 2007 Wisconsin Deer gun season. This deer was taken in The Northern Kettle Moraine Forest. I actually did not find the deer until about 3:00 pm, after my nephew and I went to a spot I had hunted earlier in the season. This deer went about 500 yards after being shot and did not give me a blood trail to follow. I used my Mossberg 835 to take this deer. My Brothers, myself, my son, and my nephews all camped out at Mauthe Lake State Park in our popups.
